The fatal blow to the project came when British European Airways refused to maintain their orders , despite all efforts that have been made to to solve this issue , the main cause of project collapse was not only the loud noise generated by the rotor tip-jets , unfortunately it was the rotor noise itself that prevented Fairey aviation to receive the orders from British European Airways .

On 20 August 1992 , the first XV-15 prototype crashed , fortunately , the aircraft was largely intact and the two crew members have escaped the aircraft accident with minor injuries . As for the second the prototype , Bell company continued its flights tests to support the development of the V22 Osprey program with Boeing vertol as contract partner . A Civilian version of this tilt rotor transport aircraft was under study by Bell and its contract partner Boeing vertol during the last phase of the V22 Osprey project , when Boeing decided to pull back from the project , Bell has managed to bring a new project partner , that was Agusta , the two aircraft manufacturing companies have formed a joint venture to develop the civilian tilt rotor transport aircraft called Bell Agusta , the first flight tool place on 6 March 2003 ,after 5 years of project development , the tilt rotor aircraft has made its first conversion from helicopter to a conventional fixed wing aircraft .The project is still under development and flight testing and is expect to enter the mass manufacturing phase in 2020 , though we have passed the half of the year and no fresh news about the project has risen to the surface .

This apparent drawback in airplane fuel efficiency will influence badly in the aircraft operational costs , because of this simple reason that aircrafts adopting tilt rotors will have short or less wing area , hindering the fuel efficiency in horizontal flight mode , the same thing can be said in the hovering mode , the rotors length or area will not have the same efficiency on helicopters .

The pilot and observer having escaped intact from the aircraft accident except the aircraft prototype that was lost . Canadair resumed flight tests with a new redesigned new aircraft prototype adopting over 150 engineering changes having additional dual controls , updated avionics , enlarged airframe and more powerful engines . The US Navy expressed interest in the aircraft and has asked Canadair to send a test flight prototype to demonstrate the aircraft capabilities . Canadair responded by sending test flight pilot Atkins who performed flight trials onboard amphibious assault ship USS Guam , as well as performing several military aircraft roles like military troops deployment and anti submarine warfare .

The prototype cargo aircraft would have an extended operational radius reaching 400km and an increased cruising speed from 460 up to 560 km/h and a maximum airspeed going from 560km/h up to 740 km/h .
Vought design proposal won the design contest , assigning the winning company to build five prototypes . The first prototype flight test has occurred on 39 September 1964 , and first flight mode transition on 11 January 1965 . During the prototype flight tests , the military cargo aircraft has accumulated 420 flight hours , with the five produced prototypes piloted by 39 different military and civilian pilots . The flight tests have taken place onboard aircraft carriers , military troops deployment as well as low-level cargo extraction .

This interconnected power transmission of four powerful engines has resulted in high amounts of vibrations and noise ,making extremely hard for the pilot to command the aircraft . The high amounts of vibrations of the drive shafts made the wing susceptible to wing flexing during the phases of take off and landings because of the high amounts of necessary mechanical energy needed to generate lift in vertical flights . The hard landing operations have often caused damage to the aircraft , until it has caused a fatal aircraft accident resulting from a mechanical drive shaft failure .

Conclusion :

Vtol aircraft engineering using a tilt wing aircraft design has clearly showed its technical shortcomings , when this aircraft design relies on more than two powerful turbo shaft engines
